E选项语法上是没什么问题的，不定式的逻辑主语也很清晰啊

so that 表示结果， so as to表示目的，译成中文就是“：为的是。。。。所以代入一下意思就明白了

你这题的关键还在于后面，即study。人家的意思是oberseve within ，后面的such是指代这个的。而E选项的study则没有这个指代功能。

能详细的讲讲为什么有within,就用such指代吗？不过你说的so as to 表示目的我不同意

你觉得这样意思通顺么? tornadao is not impractical 还是 study(研究方法)不practical?

而其他两个例子

climatic shifts are indistinguishable...意思是对的

you must keep in mind that we are looking for the best one which means that the choice other than the answer don't have to be incorrect but it must not that good. It make no sense in translate it to our native language.
Of the most important factor is the word order since it determined the meaning of the SC of which means that is a process through which you will grudually know the meaning without know which modiers which.
if the order is not properly arranged then we just know it is awkward.
you do have to know the demand that awkward,ambiguity and redundancy is standard and of quite flexible.

they are unable to do sth,我们只说有能力做某事，不能说有能力被怎么怎么， /C的被动语态太awkward

A. of their not paying back their loans on time, (collectively know as 修饰对象模糊,产生歧义)

B. of not paying back their loans on time, a group (用个新名词 a group 是对的)

C. of not paying back their loans on time, with such a group

D. that they do not pay back their loans on time, (they 的指代有问题,可能指代 records)

E. that they do not pay back their loans on time, such a group （such 没指代）

so... as to 结构so 之前的主语与 as to 后的逻辑主语应是相同的，
so that的前后逻辑主语应该是不同的。。。就这么个区别，

这个主要so that 后面的主语指代不清； So as to避免了这个问题；
