我一来就选成a了，看到答案时真是沮丧，发现涉及as的题经常做错。

后来翻了翻oxford，发现as的解释几乎占据整页，用法真是复杂：（

其中一条：in the way in which（introducing adverbial clauses of manner）eg. do it as i do it

用这条解释a不知道可不可以,麻烦nn指点指点, 我已经糊涂了

你要明白句子的结构和要表达的意思是：

A was essentail B sth as C was to D. 就不会错了。答案D。

下次顺便把答案贴出来。

a中 A is essential to B as C is （essential） to D

d中 A is as essential to B as C is （essential） to D

相比较而言，我觉得d好像还不够平行，麻烦bryony 继续讲解

下面是solome的解释

11是表示一个平行比较，the    invention    of    anesthesia    对the    development    of    surgery/
the    invention    of    the    propeller对powered    fight，是一个大平行和两个小平行的并列，所以要使用as...as。

刚才有点醒悟了

这道题目的是要比较the    invention    of    anesthesia    对the    development    of    surgery与the    invention    of    the    propeller对powered    fight的essential程度是一样的。而比较要用as...as..

而单单as不是用于比较的。而是表示正如....一样

解释的可能不对

同意楼上对于as ......, 和as ...as 的理解，其实关键在于不要把两个用法搞混。

谢谢sniffer jj，我好像有点醒悟了，到最后好像是涉及到对句意的理解，

把a翻译为：麻醉药的发明对于外科手术的发展是至关重要的，正如propeller 的发明对于powered flight 至关重要一样。好像也挺好

我在想这里不用as 。。。as比较意思也顺畅，不过如果把d翻译成中文好像还是以上的理解，哎，功力不够，理解不出其中的细微差别

         呵呵，ecsniffer    MM，你上面的帖子，让我不敢跟帖了。。。

         说点个人意见吧：我大概的总结过GMAT中 as的用法：

     1。表示比较，接句子，要用逗号分开，意思是：正如。。。

     2。可以接名词，不表示比较，意思是：作为

                         he worked as a driver

     3.     引起时间从句，表示：当。。。时候（一个时间

         只有这三种用法（目前我没发现其他，请大家指正）

             这个题目，乍一看，A满顺口的，我也有选A的冲动

             但是，体会句子的逻辑意思，觉得这是两个句子的比较，感觉用as...as...

如果D 考奌就是上面NN說的 essential 的程度

我推測是要服從 Since子句代出的意思

propeller和anesthesia做不好会make pilots(patients) die

只代表 the invention of anesthesia和the invention of propeller同analogy

As引导方式状语从句，as…as引导比较状语从句。也就是说，只牵扯到动词，用as;牵扯到形容词或副词,用as …as.fficeffice" />

因为有的语法书也把比较状语as…as归为方式状语的一种,所以只从中文意思上来讲,确实很难分辨.

我认为D是错误的。举个简单例子：

A is as important to B as C. 则至少下面两个说法语法没有问题：A is important to B; C is important to B.

回到D中，按照这个办法则：

the invention of anesthesia was essential to the development of surgery -- 没有问题

the invention of the propeller was to powered flight was essential to the development of surgery -- 明显不符合原意

所以D是错误答案。

这题我也有点模糊，大家一起讨论
在这里比较的是the invention of anesthesia was essential to the development of surgery
和 he invention of the propeller was （essential) to powered flight

字典里是说，as...as...用于副词或形容词之前构成比较句型
1，第二个as作介词时，一般直接跟宾语（如15楼的例子－A is important to B as C)
2, 若第二个as作连词时，后面就变成跟句子，如：she is as good an actress as she is a singer ／ His eyes aren't quite as blue as they look in the film.

而选项中，要构成比较，而且要连接the invention of the propeller was to powered flight 句子的话，似乎还是用as...as...比较好。
所以还是选D的好
菜鸟，刚开始研究GMAT，如有不对，各牛牛指正哦。

this is different from A was as essential to B as C

see the difference

this problem can be very confusing

I picked A the first time I read the problem
