我认为答案是D,原因是:分词做状语可以表示原因(张道正);E中的不定式to undergo settlement 修饰会产生歧义(可做状语修饰主语,也可做定语修饰earth),且E不简洁(was/ undergo) . D中underwent就表明了关系.综合上面的看法.比较之下D比E好

是不是我有的地方没考虑全,请求拍砖! 谢谢

d 可能是意思改变，本来是说M是最大的area，d变成m遭受人类定居，且making的逻辑主语是 “遭受人类定居”，从而使m 如何如何，但其实是M是最大area，才是m如何如何

不知如此解释是否正确，望nn们指点

你说的问题我认为有道理，但是D看上去更像答案啊，且我觉得D没改变意思

我觉得...如果选D的话，这里的making作为伴随状语和主句主语Madagascar成为主动关系，即成为Madagascar使自己成为研究动植物的理想场所，这样似乎逻辑上不通顺。前者是后者的原因，所以选E。

这里的last不是表示否定的意思么，最后一个还未有人类定居的地方。
(the last thing i want to do is to ... )
D的话就变成了已经有人类定居的意思了吧。

我觉的3楼说的有道理，making 没有逻辑主语
E 用了because 代替了逻辑主语的混乱

弱弱地说一句：D里面的making引导的应该是伴随状语吧，那伴随状语的主语就应该和主句的主语一致，也就是说是Madagascar make it an ideal site for researching rare flora and fauna，但是实际上题目意思是说Madagascar was one of the last habitable areas of the earth to undergo human settlement这个fact makes it an ideal site for researching rare flora and fauna…… 个人观点，欢迎指正……

分词表示伴随，最主要的是逻辑主语是主句主语。因为M是无生命的，且没有发出什么动作，所以做不了making it 的逻辑主语

但 John always works hard, making himself the best-performing employee in TT company

其实make这个词不好， ”使得“ 感觉放句中多余
