But是连词，连接一个新句子，不是插入语

(A) their female counterparts have had to work

(B) their problem is working

(C) one thing they have had to do is work

(D) the handicap women of science have had is to work

(E) women of science have had to work

and和but是连词是可以连接句子的，但是这样，149题的those就连不上as fast as啦！！那么按149的推就是两个逗号间是

插入语不看，但是244题E中又是和两个逗号间的but引导的对比，而不是和文章最开始的like引导的对比，这是怎么回

事！！完全被GMAC搞糊涂啦。

and, but可以连接任何一样的成分
149 and连得是 in most parts..and in some parts
244 but转折的是 like... but unlike...
