第一题选D, 由 not only......but also......平行就可以得出.
第二题选A, 主要是由 where 修饰先前的 homes 做地点状语.

没看出来和 ing分词做伴随有什么关系的..

在A项prep笔记给的解释中说affecting water density也错了。因为现在分词不能修饰be，只能修饰do .

想确认一下这种说法的正确性

别确认了，舍本逐末，钻研现在分词修饰be还是do无助于解决问题本身，更无助于提高SC水平。
