What is people's role as citizens in the temporary society, role as citizens of the world or of a particular country? This is a complex and controversial issue to discuss. Today, world seems as a integral family and is so-called "earth village". International cooperation and a global economy are emphasized heavily. While all these mentioned activities is constituted by human beings. We live in the exclusive star and act the same as a member of the world. What's more, we also belong to our countries, which is different from each other in the world. I agree with the issue above, to some degree, that people need to realize their role as citizens of the world. However, I cannot omit people's role as citizens of their own countries as well.
In the first place, we live in a common world. As the increasing development of our technology, science, culture and knowledge, the world has become more "smaller" than before. On one hand, we are benefiting common global development and we share our ideas as role citizens of the world. For example, during the 20th century, Internet changes our lives largely, we can buy whatever we want through Internet, even commodity in a distant country, through just clicking our mouse. We can contact with our foreign friends through emails or chatting tools, improving the relationship of people in different hairs, languages or living-habits.
On the other hand, we do face the same global problems in environment pollution, source disparity, over-crowding population and so on. We need to act as the same role as citizens of the world to protect our environment on the earth and solve problems in source and population. The WCU, World Conservation Union, is a constitution that guides citizen in the world from different countries to take measures to preserve our environment, such as limitation in the cutting of forest trees, constrain of petroleum exploitation and prohibition of CFC, a noxious gas released by refrigerator. Accordingly, we must act as citizens of the world to protect our earth and improve our living condition.
In the second place we also cannot deny people's role as citizens of a particular country. Everyone has his motherland and grows in the country that affect most of his habit, moral and value. People should sever for their own countries in various aspects, such as in economy, policy, education and safety. Because there are more than 200 countries in the world, they are mostly different from each other, people should take specific responsibility of citizens to protect their countries. In China, Chinese are very careful about their growing population, so the government proposes Family Planning Policy to control population, so as to share the limited source of China 's land. However, France recently announced that it will give a reward to women who give birth, since the population in France is deficiency, many industries even hard to seek available labor to produce. Thereby, people should take various roles of citizens of their own countries.
In conclusion, it is not rational to argue for just one of the two roles.
