A：twice as much as 1977

B :twice as many as 1977

C:double what it was in 1977

D: double the figure for 1977

E:a number double that of 1977's

想请问答案D中的double,是不是做动词，是的话做什么成分呢？

这里修饰的对象是 ministers，是人，不是数，不能用twice，故排除A，B
同时也与E的a number矛盾，排除E。
考察C中的what it was这里的it还是暗指数字，所以它用了单数，也排除。
D中的figure我也理解是数，而且来个for 1997，我就晕了

查证过double可以做v.t.也可以做v.i. 但是好像看到过LZM的语法书上说double只能做v.i.

Our house has doubled in value since we bought it.

同等大牛指点。

sayysong谢谢你的回答，可是twice为什么不能用在人数比较上？

from longman:

two times more, bigger, better etc than something else
twice as many/much (as something)

They employ 90 people, twice as many as last year.

这里是修饰9 percent，不是修饰20,736 female ministers

看了下，又查了字典，应该是前置限定词。句中做同位语

pair 一对, 名词

例如,打扑克牌:
