标题: LSAT逻辑一道,求解释 [打印本页] 作者: TheAssembly 时间: 2009-11-11 22:07 标题: LSAT逻辑一道,求解释 Journal: In several psychological studies, subjects were given statements to read that caused them to form new beliefs. Later, the subjects were told that the original statements were false. The studies report, however, that most subjects persevered in their newly acquired beliefs, even after being told that the original statements were false. This strongly suggests that humans continue to hold onto acquired beliefs even in the absence of any credible evidence to support them. Which one of the following, if true, most undermines the journal’s argument?
(D) Most of the subjects had acquired confirmation of their newly acquired beliefs by the time they were told that the original statements were false. 答案是D.D是不是说:在他们被告知原来的STATEMENT是错的的时候他们已经确信自己新建立的BELIEF了。这分明是加强了那个论述嘛?我哪里想的不对?

我觉得confirmation可以理解成other support for their new belief.
所以就是说,they held on to the belief not because they were behaving irrationally, but because they had other reasons to convince themselves of that belief.作者: wenwliu 时间: 2009-11-14 05:41
Notice the conclusion of this passage is " This strongly suggests that humans continue tohold onto acquired beliefs even in the absence of any credible evidenceto support them."
The question is "Which one of the following, if true, most undermines the journal’s argument?" It is basically asking for what will weaken the argument.
(D)Most of the subjects had acquired confirmation of their newly acquiredbeliefs by the time they were told that the original statements werefalse. This choice tells you that the subjects have been presented with credible evidence for the new believe. 作者: GMATMASTER 时间: 2009-11-14 12:54
Hi The Assembly, the confirmation also means proof; so there is PRESENCE of other evidence
