I don't think it is idiomatic.

楼主，as 和so之间有个逗号，所以前句是从句，后句是主句，而不存在你说的idiom。当as 表示“像”的意思的时候是个连词，必须跟句子an a needs a b，而like后面不能用句子，好像只能跟名词

比较对象不对，其实全文实际相比较的是两个人所需要的知识，并不是两个人

因为　evaluates finds of ancient art and requires a background in art history这句中是并列关系，而句子意思说明： requires a background in art history 和evaluate finds to ancient art 是目的关系，to do 更好。 还有人　require a background 好像别扭，人 needs a background in art history更合适。

我也想问问 为什么前面有as做从句，为什么后面还要加个so呢？
这岂不是多余了吗？   就像because   后面还有一个so 一样是多余的啊

like有歧义，可以表示喜欢和像，在比较中一般用as或such as

C 选项的as是副词 表示“如同”

我知道的其中一个原因是，like.....后面加短语，加comma后，后要直接跟比较的对象，不能加so

个人意见，D中，like引导比较的侧重对象在考古学家上，而定语从句是修饰考古学家的，而后半部分比较的对象侧重不在自然考古学家上而在他获得背景知识上！比较的对象不对称！ 后半部分的侧重比较了前半部分的定语上！！ 个人理解，不喜可喷！ 哈哈

在gmat里， 表示列举的时候，只能用as,不能用like。
like是比较词汇，比较的内容需要有可比性，而且在结构上需要平行。

D 的错误主要在于从句的逻辑结构错了，变成了并列。

抱歉抱歉，昨天看到这个知识点，发现我之前完全说错了！prep语法笔记里是这样解释的：

just as A do, so B do平行比较结构的习惯搭配：意思是：就如同A…B…
*: 这里的as是不能用like,whereas的。而且like…so…不符合搭配习惯，应该去掉so…
D.    like…, so…比较结构错误；evaluates finds of ancient art and requires a background in art history打破了原来的目的状语结构，evaluate应该是requires a BG in art history的目的

所以，如果用like（介词），后面直接将名词或名词性短语进行对比，那么d选项里，第二部分的so就完全多余，否则和第一部分不对称。
使用like对比的话，句子应该去掉so

Like the archaeologist who evaluates finds of ancient art and requires a background in art history,  the nautical archaeologist needs specialized knowledge of the history and theory of ship design in order to understand shipwrecks.
