D is correct.

Prep笔记上说C的问题是前后比较对象有问题，我觉得奇怪，比较词是smaller，说明修饰和比较的的确是commitment，那后文的that有什么问题么？

楼主这样想：

i have a bigger apple than you 好呢还是 i have a bigger apple than your apple

由此可见c选项中，that不能加。但是个人感觉D也不好，最后的had应该改成did比较好。坐等nn解释这个问题

对哦，C选项还原之后类似于I have a bigger apple than that of you. 豁然开朗

我觉得不单单是YONG PEOPLE 与 THEIR PARENTS AND GRADPARENTS的比较吧。
为了突出表现两代人生活的时间之差的比较时候，前面的HAVE现在时与后面的HAD过去时行程了强烈的对比，感觉比DID好的多了。虽然白勇语法规则上也有说明重复动词时候用DID来代替前者HAVE。
