The grammar question:fficeffice" />
The Emperor Augustus, it appears, commissioned an idealized scupture portrait, the features of which are so unrealistic as to constitute what one scholar calls an “artificial face.”
A) so unrealistic as to constitute
B) so unrealistic they constituted
C) so unrealistic that they have constituted
D) unrealistic enough so that they constitute
E) unrealistic enough so as to constitute
My problem: The right answer is A. I don’t understand the whole construction above, especially the function of the phrase “it appears, commissioned an idealized scupture portrait”. Why the whole sentence use the past tense with the present tense together? Thanks a lot. Why the C and B choices are wrong? I am very puzzled by them. Thanks again.
F) so unrealistic that they constitute
那么就不选A了。
