Scientist have identified an asteroid, 2000 BF19, that is about half mile wide and, if it strikes Earth, it can do tremendous damage to part of the planet but probably not cause planetwide destruction.

这道题我觉得结构好奇怪这个that怎么能这么用答案是C 不是说be to do永远错吗？这种题目怎么做啊

我不太明白为什么要用虚拟语气，但我想这是个虚拟语气，从it were可以看出来。

2000 BF19和IF IT WERE TO STRIKE EARTH都是插入成分，看的时候去掉就是。that(, if it were to strike Earth, )could do tremendous damage to part of the planet but would..和前面的that is about half mile wide 两个定语从句构成并列结构修饰ASTEROID
