标题: 求助状语的就近修饰--白勇语法第8章

白勇语法里有一道题目：

In A.D.391，resulting from the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria, later generations lost all but the IIiad and Odyssey among Greek epics, most of the poetry of Pindar and Sappho, and dozens of plays by Aeschylus and Euipides.

A. resulting from the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria,

B. the destroying of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria resulted and

C. because of the result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,

D. as a result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,

E. Alexandria's largest library of the ancient world was destroyed, and the result was

书上说，AB选项里，介词at Alexandria可以修饰the largest library, 也可以修饰the ancient world,从而使句子意思产生歧义。

这个我就弄不懂了，明明at Alexandria直接跟在world的后面，怎么可能会修饰the largest library呢，还是因为是a of b的结构，才会有修饰不清楚地呢？

大家有没有同样的疑问阿，请NN解答下吧！

我不是NN，仅阐述一下个人观点：白勇语法对题目的解释有些是比较武断并且片面的，其实就本题而言，根本不用从副词修饰的角度来判断。A：分词短语谓语句首，其逻辑主语应该是主句主语，因此later generations作为resulting的逻辑主语错误；B destroy有名词destruction，就不用destroying表示；C because of the result of 语义重复；E显然比D啰嗦且不符合语法习惯，此外还有转移原文重心之嫌.

至于楼主所提的副词修饰问题，个人不觉得有什么不妥。

两个介词链接使用，不知道第二个形容的是哪一个
这句话可以理解成 the library is at A or ancient world at A
就像是说，”古代最大的图书馆在A“，第二句说“在A的ancient world 的最大的图书馆”，第二句，它可能是A地区最大的，但并不是整个地区最大的，整个句子有歧义

B即使用destruction， the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria resulted 句子也不完整

E. Alexandria's largest library of the ancient world was destroyed, and the result was （that）

括号中的that是宾语从句中的先行词，不能省略

D选项为毛没有歧义啊，明明就有的啊，明明有啊，怎么可以跳着修饰中间的library呢，怪了

我使用排除法做的。

A. resulting from 不能做状语，只能做定语，所以排除A.

B. destroy的名词为destruction. 当一个动词有名词的时候，优先使用名词，而不是-ing

C. because of 与result 同时使用，所以错。

E. 从属关系变成并列关系。

所以答案D对。
