Were it not for the fusion-powered heat and radiation that rush from its core, instead its own weight would cause a star to collapse.

instead a star would have collapsed under its own weight
a star would have to be collapsing under its own weight

its own weight would have caused a star’s collapse

哪位好心人士，帮忙解释下，我选的是E，答案是D。这道题一点头绪都没有。

C.a star would have to be collapsing under its own weight

D.a starwould collapse under its own weight（would对应if it were的虚拟语气的过去和过去将来时态；star collapse主动优于被动）

E.its own weight would have caused a star’s collapse（it指代不明，逻辑上就是a star自己，但是语法上翻译出来就是：它自己的重量可能会导致一个星体爆炸。could have的虚拟语气对应于if it had been，错；cause a star’s collapse不好，cause a star to collapse更好）

标准的虚拟语气不是主句要用would have done么？

A错是因为instead redundant，were it not forxxxx已经discuss了what would happen instead。而且A中的its own weight在a star之前，it指代模糊
B错误是因为instead和would have collapsed，would have xxed
是用来说明a consequence that did not happen
e.g yesterday i saw a nice table. if it had fit in my car, i would have bought it and taken it home. unfortunately, though, it was too big.
C我不太确定错误的原因，但是would have to be collapsing这种说法太笨重了，e.g if you want to keep your job, you will need to work hard. 不会有you will have to be working hard这种说法
D是正确了
E错误其实是在would have caused这里，其实这里的its是没有指代错误的，但是，就算是没有指代错误，这种pronoun在noun之前的句式也是不太好了，肯定是没有D简洁明了，用OG最通常的解释来说就是wordy，awkward
