6. In late 1997, the chambers inside the pyramid of the Pharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to visitors for cleaning and repair due to moisture exhaled bv
tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing and fungus was growing on the walls.

(A) due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing

(B) due to moisture that tourists had exhaled,thereby raising its humidity to such levels that salt from the stone would crystallize

(C because tourists were exhaling moisture, which had raised the humidity within them to levels such that salt from the stone would crystallize

(E) because moisture exhaled by tourists had raised the humidity within them to such levels that salt from the stone was crystallizing

对于A,B我没有问题 due to实在错的太明显了对于C D解释上说他们的them有指代问题都是指代tourists

仔细看看 E也用了them啊 E的结构是the chambers were closed to sb because moisture did sth within them to ...

是不是E这样的句子结构使them不会歧义去修饰tourists呢

还请大家帮忙解惑！

我觉得C中，根据就近原则，which had raised the humidity within them...是用来修饰“moisture"的。而其中的them根据就近，则是指tourists；

D中，我不懂为什么them是指tourists...在我看来，that was exhaled by tourists修饰moistue，全句简化为because of moisture raising the humidity within them...这个them是指chambers的...

E中，exhaled by tourists作后置定语修饰moisture，所以可简化为because moisture had raised the humidity within them...所以，E中的them 自然是指chambers而非tourists...

不知道我想的对不对，期待NN的解答。。。

这道题，我对了，所以我没有看解释
我重新再看一次，还是会选择E，因为C里面的them都是指tourists的，很明显而D里面就很含糊，我是判断不出指的是哪个
而E选项如果把exhaled 这个定语和他后面的修饰省去的话，修饰的还是前面的

还是觉得CDE多多少少都有一些指向不明。只是E看起来好像还可以罢了。

anyway，好在这个题目从其他语法点出发，也可以找出答案。

对于E

同意grandmotherz 因为exhaled by tourists作后置定语修饰moisture，所以可简化为because moisture had raised the humidity within them...所以，E中的them 自然是指chambers而非tourists

对于C 我只知道them不可能是指代chambers 但是为什么是指tourists呢我怎么觉得也可能修饰moisture啊

对于D 我完全不知道怎么去判定them指谁

NN来帮忙解答一下啊！！

我想了很久这个问题很重要不弄清楚语法题要错好多的～～

我觉得代词指代是最后判断的标准，不能用这个办法来区分正确选项

而且我还觉得og把错误选项的代词指代也会标出来，但是正确选项的代词指代他又不解释，很郁闷...

你看这道题，明显them逻辑上应该指代chambers

C，D，E选项基本上代词指代应该是差不多的，但是CD明显有其他问题

额。。还是不明白啊。。

我觉得如果按照前面说的。修饰部分划去，那么D that was exhaled by tourists不是也可以划去，那么them就不会指代tourists了啊~

为什么同样都是不考虑修饰部分，但指代部分就不一样了呢

主要想看看自己理解的对不，所以上来搜了一下这个句子，果然有同学问，但是好像没有结果。我的理解是：看within them所在句子在整个选项里的成份。C和D明显是修饰成分，C：which从句修饰前面的句子，句子主语为tourists,所以them有问题。 D：raising分词表示由前面动作产生的影响，也是修饰成分。所以them也有问题。而E则是完整的主谓结构，所有them指代没有问题。

后来我又搜到了太傻上的解释，大家可以看一看。我和他的解释有出发点相似。下面是链接：

代词指代的优先级为主句主语>主句谓语>修饰语
因此D不好，因为them所在句的主语为tourists
而E的为moisture、humidity，them就就近指代了
请指正·~

浏览了其它一些网站，比较统一的说法是E的确存在歧义只是相比其他选项更好，有一条发言时这样的：
there are examples in OG where a ambiguity of reference is acceptable. As they say ..don't force youself to see the ambiguity.
