句中是不是three years earlier go bankrupt做时间状语修饰open?No, here "living","watching" and "facing" are parallel. "he had opened three year earlier" modifies "the haberdashery". and "go bankrupt" here should be viewed as part of "watch something do something"

watch sth/ that clause. Here watching is followed by an object clause without that, ETS can violate such dicipline, but we can not make such mistakes.
