205. The peaks of a mountain range, acting like rocks in a streambed, produce ripples in the air flowing over them; the resulting flow pattern, with crests and troughs that remain stationary although the air that forms them is moving rapidly, are known as "standing waves."

(B)    crests and troughs that remain stationary although they are formed by rapidly moving air, are
(C)    crests and troughs that remain stationary although the air that forms them is moving rapidly, is

(E)    stationary crests and troughs although they are formed by rapidly moving air, is

我知道根据主谓一致原理，只能在C、E 中选答案，可是E错在哪里还是不明白。OG给的说明也看不懂。哪位大侠指点一下？多谢了！！！

Choice E uses the correct verb form, is, but it incorrectly introduces a dependent adverbial although clause into a prepositional phrase (with crests ...). Choice D also makes this error. Such dependent clauses can only occur in the predicates of full clauses. C, the best choice, uses the correct verb form, is, and correctly puts the although clause inside the predicate of the relative clause (that... rapidly).

按照ETS语法的的一句话里有两个错误:
1. Wordy!
2. 主谓不一致

应改为: Thank you for your clear explanation.

这道题, 我也错了, 当时一看E的字数少就选了. 但我想ETS的解释还有一个意思:
"Such dependent clauses can only occur in the predicates of full clauses.”

这即是说在E 中, WITH stationary crests and troughs although they are formed by rapidly moving air, ALTHOUGH 引导的句子是在介词WITH 的结构中, 而我们知道ALTHOUGH 引导的都是相对另外一个主谓结构的句子而言(上一句的中文意思), 直白的说ALTHOUGH 的前后应该是主谓结构的句子, 在C 中, that remain stationary although the air that forms them is moving rapidly
ALTHOUGH 引导的句子是相对于REMAIN 这一主谓结构, 避免了该错误.

standing waves由两个量组成，一个是crests and troughs, 另一个是the air, 后边的解释性应该强调出两个部分。E项没有把air作为一个组成量（从句子意思，而不是语法结构解释），所以错，既与原文要表达的意思不符。

1）改变句意，改变句子重心

2）在with引导的介词短语中引入了although引导的从句

good job! there is no any explanation about the usage of although in the OG11th;
but your post make more sense! this point confused me for a long time.
