答案为B。我想不通，这个Neanderthals的‘出现’为什么是用现在时？它也不是一个真理什么的

还是说这个appear不是出现的意思？是seem的意思？

这里的appear不是出现的意思，LZ体会下句意吧；同意3楼的，appear要与indicate时态平行

偶觉得appear是出现的意思

尽管appear这件事一定是发生在过去

它与其后的indicates时态都用一般现在时的原因是在说一个事实

就像 be native to也要用一般现在时一样

但偶对C还有疑问 C中除了equipped前缺be之外有没有appear as的用法？？

我还是不解，说要与indicate时态对应，indicate that ... led...不是过去时么。。。

关于时态 E中除去for的问题之外还是觉得appear要好一些

先从indicates看起

that从句中用led很好理解就是一个明确的过去动作

而整个that从句都是disappearance所indicates的一个客观存在的事实就是从我们的角度是disappearance（属性同data等）要indicates表现的内容

...........怎么自己说的这么不清楚..........做一个类比来说在逻辑的weaken中我们不能去质疑过去的事实、资料等但我们完全可以去否定原文中对过去事件所做的分析............大概是这个意思

而接下来文中未划线部分but 有说明indicates和appear应该不仅在语法上转折更意味着这两个词在逻辑上应该属于同一层就是站在我们现在的角度去把原始人过去的一系列动作当成资料数据来看待

如果appear不是出现的意思
那么就有可能是“似乎”appear to be
翻译如下：（拥有）强壮的身体结合高智力，尼安德特人似乎都配备一种面临了对任何障碍他们前进道路的环境的能力【= =意会一下！】，但他们在突然消失在旧石器时期显示，一些无法适应环境的变化导致它们灭绝。

恩，这道题目我看的时候也纠结了一下，后来觉得在GMAT的SC中其实还是很关注逻辑（我常常喜欢叫它关系）的，这里用了一个but，说明是转折关系，那前后两个主句的动词appear 和 indicate 就是同一个层面（就是前面TX说的逻辑层次==我的词汇量啊...）上的。所以说在做题目的时候一定要关注表示关系（平行、转折、因果）的词。

这是我的一点看法，不知道对不对，希望NN指正~~~

this isn't a present perfect construction, because it's actually an infinitive.
i.e., it's not "they have been equipped"; it's "they appear TO HAVE been equipped".

in any case, you should probably just memorize this construction as a one-off idiomatic structure. if you say "they seemed/appeared to...", then, no matter how remote the event is (in time), you use this construction.

for instance:
it seems that the students cheated on the exam
(normal past tense in this construction)
but...
the students seem to have cheated on the exam
(not here)

i don't really have a good explanation for this, other than "i'm a writer with a firm command of formal english, and i know that it is so" and "you should just think of it as an idiom". sorry i can't do better than that.

in any case, though, you DO have to use an infinitive after "appear" or "seem" in this sort of construction. and if you think about it, this is as past-tense as an infinitive can get. so that's why you have to use it.

appear 是“显示出”的意思，不是出现的意思。以前我一直以为是Neanderthals人的出现，这样理解的话会容易造成错误，以为要用过去式。

In English, we have two infinitive tenses: the present infinitive (TO + VERB) and the perfect infinitive (TO + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE).

The present infinitive expresses CONTEMPORANEOUS action (an action happening AT THE SAME TIME as the main action):
John IS proud TO BE president.
Here, John IS proud (in the present) TO BE president (also in the present). 这是我后来看到的。。还是有点晕

我感觉Ron大神是想强调appear/seem to do就是这么表达的，所以appear as do一定错。
另外，Ron的意思是不是it appears/seems that sth/sb did = sth/sb appear/seem to have done?
毕竟appear/seem用过去式是不是表意有点奇怪？
希望NN解惑下
