标题: 【已证实！！！请教一个语法点】and also

XDF老师认为 and also重复，所以必错，但是今天GWD做到一题竟然选了and also，请问各位到底and also这个结构对不对？

麻烦各位帮忙，太难受了~

T-4-Q4

Turning away from literary realism to write romantic stories about the peasant life and landscape of northern Sweden, in 1909 Selma Lagerlof was the novelist who became the first woman and was also the first Swedish writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

这题虽然看上去否定了and also 的错误性，但是其实ETS还是不倾向这个结构的，理由是之前没做到这题，我都是拿and also错来做题的，而除了这题以外，and also确实还真没有对过。（也可能是小弟看的题目没有各位NN多，但是不说and also一定错，至少可以说明不倾向于这个结构）这题选到D，是因为其他选项都错。按照XDF老师的说法，先主要错误再次要错误，先语法后逻辑。序数词后面加不定式是固定搭配，固定搭配最大，没有道理，所以the first to win对，排除BCE，剩下AD。且不谈was的用法对不对（愚以为第二个was多余），A选项逻辑意思错了，SL是第一个变成女人的小说家？变性？所以选D，但是这题我觉得还是可以坚持之前and also的想法，就是用它来排除，至少应该有这个结构的选项先放一边，没有对的选项了再去看这种选项。今天看到一个CDer发了一个链接，说and also的，特意放上来，希望大家参考，请NN指证。

umm...这道题目证实了and also之后用名词是起到了强调作用并不能算redundant.所以我个人推断是不是后面接主谓结构的时候前面如果and also同时用就是重复的。

很遗憾..gmat的官方题目里没再出现过其他and also为正确的例子。

and also在列举的时候多余，不过在also有时候是作为强调而且不用在列举中不一定多余（and also还有一种情况下是redundant的：both X and also Y）

我最近看到Ron说这个"and also"的用法，在这道题里perfect。

正确句子如下：
A novelist who turned away from literary realism to write romantic stories about the peasant life and landscape of northern Sweden, Selma Lagerlöf became in 1909 the first woman and also the first Swedish writer to winthe Nobel Prize for Literature.

作者要表达的是这么一个平行关系：
1) first woman
to win the Nobel Prize for Literature
2) first swedish writer

而不是：
1) first woman
2) first swedish writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature

如果你仅仅只用"and"，读者可以理解为第一种，也可以理解为第二种，逻辑上都说得过去（有"first woman"的说法），这就有些歧义
而加上"also"，这句子你读一读：
... the first woman and also the first Swedish writer to winthe Nobel Prize for Literature.
读的时候强调"also"，逻辑意思一下子就明确了。

所以这题告诉我们，一切从meaning出发，从correctness&effectiveness出发。不是所有的"and also"都算redundant，我看Manhattan上面说GMAC出题的发展趋势就是要惩罚那些用"unwarranted shorcut"的考生。
大多数句子,and就够了，干吗画蛇添足加个also？这个句子，加also能让意思更清晰明确。

_刚找到Ron的原版解释，跟我以上有点出入，按他说的理解吧。

"X and Y" is normally used to indicate two different things. (if you said "the first woman and the first Swedish writer", without the "also", that would normally imply 2 different people)

"X and also Y" is normally used to bestow two descriptions on the SAME person or thing (notice that both of these descriptions are meant to describe Selma Lagerlof).
