标题: OG12-121 未讨论过,NN进
121 Sales of wines declined in the late 1980s, but they began to grow again after the 1991 report that linked moderate consumption of alcohol, and perticularly of red wine, with a reduced risk of heart disease.
A. they began to grow again after the 1991 report that linked moderate consumption of alcohol, and perticularly of red wine, with a reduced risk of heart disease.
B. after the 1991 report that linked a reduced risk of heart disease with a moderate alcohol consumption, perticularly red wine, they began growing again.
C. in a 1991 report, moderate alcohol consumption, and perticularly of red wine, which was linked with a reduced risk of heart disease, caused them to begin to grow again.
D. with a reduced risk of heart disease linked in a 1991 report with moderate alcohol consumption, in perticular red wine, they began growing again. (A)
E. a reduced risk of heart disease linked to moderate alcohol consumption in a 1991 report, and in perticular red wine, started them growing again.
请教NN,A中 and perticularly of red wine 的 and 做什么成分,我认为这个and画蛇添足,错误的将red wine和alcohol并列,alcohol本身就包括了red wine, 应该将这个and去掉,perticulary of red wine直接修饰前面的consumption of alcohol. 如果用and,那么前面就不应该加逗号。
OPEN TO DISCUSSION.

个人的一点看法:
B选项 a moderate alcohol consumption, perticularly red wine,不对,后面应该是perticularly red wine consumption
C选项which就近指代red wine,被动比较awkward。
D选项与B选项错误类似
E选项总的感觉不对,同时患有和BD类似的错误。
A选项and perticularly of red wine是做插入成分,补全了应该是and perticularly consumption of red wine。相对而言就A好一些,但是这个and个人也觉得比较多余~~
请NN解释~
作者: lyyjane 时间: 2009-8-21 12:13
同问,这个and似乎很多余。。。

其他选项确实都有错,A相对来说最好一点,可是对于这个and还是有疑问.

没什么语法理由哈 可能是想强调特殊说明吧
they began to grow again after the 1991 report that linked moderate consumption of alcohol, and particularly linked moderate consumption of red wine, with a reduced risk of heart disease
把前面共同部分省略就成了A的样子
作者: jiaming12 时间: 2009-9-13 12:22
A is better than the rest

This sentence explains why a trend of declining
wine sales reversed after the publication of a 1991
report suggesting that moderate consumption of
red wine correlated with reduced risk of heart
disease. The phrase particularly of red wine
modifies consumption of alcohol, and the sentence
must make clear that it is moderate consumption,
not red wine that the report links to reduced risk.
A Correct. In the second clause, they refers
correctly to sales of wines; the relative clause
beginning with that clearly indicates that
the report linked moderate consumption …
with a reduced risk.
B Particularly red wine cannot describe
consumption—the preposition of is needed;
the placement of they so far from the
position of the antecedent Sales makes the
sentence awkward and difficult to decode.
C The clause beginning with which refers to
red wine in this construction, erroneously
suggesting that wine rather than moderate
consumption of alcohol correlates with
reduced risk of heart disease; particularly of
red wine is not parallel to moderate alcohol
consumption; it needs to follow moderate
consumption of alcohol to make sense.
D Without the preposition of, the sentence
indicates that red wine is a kind of
consumption—which makes no sense.
E The incorrect placement of the modifier in a
1991 report suggests that wine is being
consumed (albeit in moderation) in the
report itself.

查了朗文对连词“AND”的解释。COPY如下:
and
1 used to join two words, phrases etc referring to things that are related in some way:
He's gone to get some fish and chips.
The film starred Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine.
We've dealt with items one, two, and eleven.
He was tall, dark and handsome.
He plays the guitar and sings folk song。
She didn't speak to anyone and nobody spoke to her.
2 used to say that one action or event follows another:
Sit down and tell me all about it.
She picked up the kitten and put it in the box.
He knocked on the door and went in.
You'll have to wait and see what happens.
3 used to say that something is caused by something else:
I missed supper and I'm starving!
She fell downstairs and broke her leg.
4 used when adding numbers:
Six and four is ten.
5 especially British English used after verbs such as 'go', 'come', and 'try' to show what your intention is:
Shall we go and have a cup of coffee?
I'll see if I can try and persuade her to come.
6 spoken used to introduce a statement, remark, question etc:
And now I'd like to introduce our next speaker, Mrs Thompson.
She's getting married in June.' 'And who's the lucky man?'
7 used between repeated words to emphasize what you are saying:
[Look up a word starting with D or S for samples of headword or sentence pronunciations on the LDOCE CD-ROM] More and more people are losing their jobs.
[Look up a word starting with D or S for samples of headword or sentence pronunciations on the LDOCE CD-ROM] We waited for hours and hours!
That was years and years ago.
We ran and ran.
8
a) used before saying the part of a large number which is less than 100:
a hundred and four
five hundred and seventy-six
by the year two thousand and ten
b) used when saying a number which consists of a whole number followed by a fraction:
three and three-quarters
in about two and a half hours' time
five and a quarter per cent
9 used between repeated plural nouns to say that some things of a particular kind are much better than others:
'They said this guy was an expert.' 'Yes, but there are experts and experts.'
10
and?
spoken used when you want someone to add something to what they have just said:
'I'm sorry.' 'And?' 'And I promise it won't happen again.'
觉得只有第6项可能勉强解释这题中的AND。水平有限,能想到的就这么多。
贴出来,大牛们也许能从这里延伸出更多的解释,希望能起到一点提示作用。

B,with a moderate alcohol
consumption, particularly red wine, they
B Particularly red wine cannot describe
consumption—the preposition of is needed;
the placement of they so far from the
position of the antecedent Sales makes the
sentence awkward and diffi cult to decode.
D,with moderate alcohol
consumption, in particular red wine,
D Without the preposition of, the sentence
indicates that red wine is a kind of
consumption—which makes no sense.
