这是XDF蓝皮书上的一道题，蓝皮书给的答案是E；考近，做GWD给的答案是C。但是，我自己做的答案是D……

我的思路是：AB只讨论了herb的特性，无关；C我一开始觉得就算
            others of the closely related group of plants也产生h，也不能说明就是h使它们存活，不过再仔细研读文章后，觉得这
些plants都能在这种soil里存活，又都产生h，也可以支持结论；D我一开始是觉得种了这种plant之后，h就会使土壤中的metal
inert，然后帮助别的plants存活，不过好像也有问题，就是可能是别的原因使其他plants存活；E我是在看了答案之后倒推，觉得h使
metal inert之后，需要的h就越来越少。

于是乎，纠结ing，不知道是不是想太多了，麻烦XDJM给予指导，感激不尽！

C others of the closely related group of plants 在题目第一句话就说了在富含金属的土壤中thrive 同因同果是最直接的加强

IMO: C

reason:

1.原文: one of a group of closely related plants that thrive in soil with high concentrations of metals

其中,that 从句是修饰 closely related plants (从动词 thrive可以看出), 所以 closely related plants 已经被限定了就是指 "能抗有毒金属的 plants"

2.选项C中, "the closely related group of plants" 的定冠词 "the" 更证明了这里的 plants 就是指原文中"能抗有毒金属的 plants"

3.选项C的意思是: "其他能抗有毒金属的 closely related plants, 也能产生很多的 histidine", 明显是对原文结论的 support.

怎么说呢，"the closely related group of plants" 中的"the"确实是个暗示，可是这也可能是布下的陷阱啊。。题目中最后一句结论“Possibly, therefore, the herb’s high histidine production is what allows it to grow in metal-rich soils, a hypothesis that would gain support if ______.”，重点不仅在于high histidine production,而更在于allows it to grow in metal-rich soils。选项C只说明 others of the closely related group of plants 生成大量的histidine，不说明这些others of the closely related group of plants 能够grow in metal-rich soils. 题目所要求的是补上能够强化histidine renders these metals chemically inert这一实验结论的条件。选项D正好说明histidine能够抵消metal的化学作用。

答案选C。注意本题最终让你加强的结论是the herb’s high histidine（不是别的物质） production is what allows it to grow in metal-rich soils（不是别的功能）。混淆选项为A和D，但这两个选项其实都不能加强原文结论。C选项成立的原因是根据A certain cultivated herb is one of a group of closely related plants that thrive in soil with high concentrations of metals that are toxic to most other plants.即这一个group的植物都可以在该土质下生存，而原文只说了a ceratin herb，而C选项就是把这个group的其他植物也都说了，因此有力证实了原结论。

答案选E
A无关选项，B没有讨论other amino acids，无关选项。
CDE模棱两可，现在分析。
原文的推理过程是一种Herb是其他同类植物的一种，它们都可以在高金属浓度的土壤中生存，herb会产生一种H是的金属变惰性→（结论）是H，而不是其它原因使得herb可以才高金属浓度的土壤中存活。
C并不能解释结论为什么是H而不是其他的东西是的herb(or others of the related plants)在那种土壤中存活。
D最多只是与原文方向一致，但是也并不能说明是H而不是其他的东西是的herb(or others of the related plants)在那种土壤中存活。另外，结论讨论的核心是H，而D选项根本没有提及H。
E可以支持结论，在herb成熟过程中H含量减少，正好说明了H发挥了作用（H在是的金属元素变惰性的过程中被逐渐消耗了）。
所以做题时一定要抓住原文，特别是结论讨论的核心是什么，再比较各选项有没有围绕这个核心来讨论。
