答案为A，我选了C

疑惑：

白勇的语法全解上说现在完成时形式的分词不能做定语修饰名词，可是A中 having left 。。。不就是修饰life forms了吗

我觉得这里的having left不是做的定语

你想想定语是修饰成分，也就是去掉之后句子依然完整，但是你把A中的having去掉后， presuming such life forms. 已经不是一个完整的句子了，个人觉着这里是做补语

其实也就相当于presuming that such life forms have left some fossil trace ... 应该可以看出来不是修饰关系

C 宾语从句的that是不能省略的，情态动词也不能随意去掉

郁闷阿，这个题究竟选什么？哪位大牛冒个泡？

新东方的讲解网站上居然说选B,理由如下：

“划线部分第一个词是and, 这决定了前后必须对称，由于划线部分前面是whether，所以D和E后面的if都错了。A和C有个非常严重的错误，presuming这个分词是没有动作的发出者的，逻辑发生错误。”

我只知道DE一定错...到底选什么？

铁定选A

and whether（, presuming such life forms having left fossil traces to begin with, ）those traces can

whether those traces can...；presuming的主语是隐含的

B里边“if it is presumed that”太啰嗦了；whether can those traces 也不成立

同意楼上的,当中的就是插入语，跳掉不看,就是and whether those traces can,而且can是情态动词，省略了意思就有点变化了

对，现在我知道情态动词can尽量不能省，但是对于having dong这个是否是后置定语修饰，还是没能得到合理清楚的解释啊

问题是如果presuming引导的是插于语，或者整个是定语，可以不看，那后面的those指代谁呢？V-ing是否是修饰整个句子？

Those 不是指代啊，是those traces
