(B) which was determined by when the sun reached the observer’s meridian and which differed

(D) determined by when the sun reached the observer’s meridian and differed（E）

(E) determined by when the sun reached the observer’s meridian and differing

我认为正确答案应该是C. 这里which定语从句就是修饰限定local times, 这句话的意思是当地时间由太阳到达观察着的子午点决定并且每个城市都不同。

而正确答案E是不是更倾向于说铁路的增加导致取消local times 这一事件是由by when the sun reached the observer’s meridian and differing 来决定

如果E答案也修饰限定local times，那么我认为which定语从句不是更比分词准确，不产生歧义吗？

正解是什么呢？谁帮我分析看看：

为什么要用differing呢？我觉得既然前面有which了，那后面用and的话就应该用differed啊，时态和were一样？

汗，我看错了，如果选C的话那么后面就不能用differing了，因为作为定语从句有which做主语了，应该用differed

这题考parallelism

and 前后要对称

C中从句和短语不对称，differing换成differed就和E有异曲同工的地方了

E中两个分词修饰的是local times，比从句更简洁

“E是不是更倾向于说铁路的增加导致取消local times 这一事件是由by when the sun reached the observer’s meridian and differing 来决定”

不是也不会，划线部分后面的"and to the establishment of regional times"消除了歧义
