GWD-10-Q22:GWD-11-14
The single-family house constructed by the Yana, a Native American people who lived in what is now northern California, was conical in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.
A. banked with dirt to a height of
B. banked with dirt as high as that of
C. banked them with dirt to a height of
D. was banked with dirt as high as
E. was banked with dirt as high as that of
答案是A
The single-family house (主语)constructed by the Yana, a Native American people who lived in what is now northern California, was conical (谓语)in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and
banked (应该是与谓语并列啊) with dirt to a height of three to four feet.

A. banked with dirt to a height of
B. banked with dirt as high as that of
C. banked them with dirt to a height of
D. was banked with dirt as high as-dirt和three to four feet不能比较
E. was banked with dirt as high as that of-dirt和dirt of three to four feet比较,比较本身就很awkward,翻译过来逻辑意思也很奇怪(dirt of three to four feet,这个dirt也太大了吧,^_^) ;相反A选项逻辑意思很清楚framework用dirt be banked to a heigh of...;

overlaid后面有with,bank后面也有with

The single-family house constructed by the Yana, a Native American people who lived in what is now northern California, was conical in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet. 独立主格成分:its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.

那为什么要用to a hight of 而不是as high as that of?

from Manhattangmat:
First, there's the "as high as" problem. You don't use a construction like that unless you're:
(a) giving some sort of limitation on the height of something, and/or
(b) trying to emphasize the extreme height of something.
During the turbulent fall season, Lake Superior can have waves as high as 18 feet.
--> this is an appropriate usage. 18 feet is extremely high for a wave on a lake (!), so "as high as" makes sense here.
Also, we're saying that 18 feet is an upper bound.
Since this problem is doing neither of these, "to a height of" is better.

just an example based on fansail's explaination:
AD之争 --- a height of 与as high as的区别
'as high as' should be followed by one value, not a range.
some of our players weigh as much as 300-325 pounds --> bad phrasing
some of our players weigh as much as 325 pounds --> good phrasing

a height of 和as high as的解释(from RON):
there is a meaning shift. if you say 'dirt as high as four feet', you're implying that most of the dirt is well below the four-foot level, but that four feet is the maximum height. the correct answer choice, on the other hand, states that the height of the dirt bank is consistently three to four feet.
