答案选D，解释里只是强调了主谓一致的问题，一个efforts排除了ABC。

我的问题是：existing，有问题吗？existing 是不是有修饰efforts的歧义呢？

我认为不会

existing紧跟着gaps 而且efforts和exist搭配很奇怪。。

existing表示现有的，而文章中exist是表示存在，本身就是一个延续性动词，不能用ing形式

谢谢strawdog，是不是说existing在这里是形容词，放在名词后面修饰？

我错以为是existing是现在分词，老是搞不清楚。汗。。。

补充一下,这题D和E的区别更多在于简洁度和清晰度.

用significantly reduced比been significant in a reduction of要简洁;

另外that exist的修饰对象比existing要清晰.

对于楼上的看法，有点不太认同，以下是我的理解，请指教:

significantly reduce 与 been significant in a reduction of 在意思上就不一样吧

significantly reduce 意思是：大规模的减少（中心动词词是reduce）

been significant in a reduction of 意思是：在减少的过程中扮演了很重要的角色（中心动词是been）
