我选的是D 答案是B 论坛上发的贴子解释为D ,到底这题是什么？是何原因？

爭議題...
一般支持B的: that指代"more than 2,000 letters and documents on wooden tablets...", 所以是are不是is
一般支持D的: that指代"a historical account of the military garrison in the first and second centuries", 所以是is不是are
個人傾向D, 因為:
- S+V+O that V2...的that指代S太遠
- 如果真的要指代S, 那可以寫成S that...V+O, 或是S+V+O, and (pronoun of S)+V2....沒必要寫成B那樣.

LS正解啊。。

做题的时候一直在考虑是指代哪一个。。

最后还是觉得

more than 2,000 letters and documents on wooden tablets

更合理一些。。

不过这样貌似会有歧义而且修饰对象也太远了。。。

account of 是不能被gather 的啊

同意，应该是修饰书信的，可是这样的是不是和that就近修饰的原则相违背了
