Underscore part of A by itself is illogical: the sandpipers ... is a resulf of .... You may say "the vanishing of sandpipers is a result ...", but cannot say "the bird is a result". However, even though it is the case, the answer is still wrong - since "the vanishing of birds" is not parallel with "grassy fields and pastures".
As to B, you can understand it in the following way: Like the grassy fields and old pastures (which are vanishing), the bird itself is vanishing too....
