标题: CUHK and HKUST
Hello,

Good luck for all CUHK interviewees. As a HK local, I am now doing MBA in HKUST and I got my first business master in International Business in CUHK. I think the teachers of CUHK pay more attention to the students. As for HKUST, it is only a "research" school. Most teachers pay attention to their research but not teaching.

no, i think CU and UST are both pretty good school, just like PKU and Tsinghua.     hard to say which is better.

BTW, Michael, do you think the study-load of UST is heavier than that of CU?

I think the workload of HKUST is much higher. I even do not have time to accompany my girlfriend. I do not know why we have so high workload.

how do you think about the placement of two schools? Espacilly a guy from mainland want a postion in banks of HK.

yhyz,

Sorry for late reply. As for banking, I am afraid that most HK banks like to find HK locals because we are familiar with the environment. HKUST finance is stronger than that of CUHK. But as for job hunting, many classmates having experience in banking in Mainland China are still waiting and waiting .............

Michael,

Thanks. How about i banking? I mean for mainlanders? I heard we MBA can get around 20-30k per month(average)

Y HK's economy is so weak now. The hengsheng index is climbing .(about13000)

Usdusaj,

Yes, the salary is very high. Someone even can get HK$30-50K per month. However,    I am afraid that it is very very difficult for the Mainlanders to get jobs in investment banks. Until now, I do not know which HKUST mainland MBA 2004 graduates    can get jobs in investment banks. Reasons: investment banks prefer people who are educated in HK or America because they are familiar with environment. Second, language. As you know, some mainlanders can get full mark in listening in TOEFL but they cannot express their ideas verbally in interviews!

There is probability that the two will become one.

The idea of merge has been rejected.

please stop polluting this board. if you are really competent, you don't need to be a bad mouth here on your classmates -- as a stranger and a visitor to this board, my observation says that.    I'm sorry.

To be frankly, i don't think you are more competent than others--if you go to i-banks in Hong Kong today, they will reject you simply because you knew nothing about China and you refuse to learn. Believe me. Hong Kong's future relies on China--this is something every HKers should think about.    Think more of your own drawbacks and areas you need to improve instead of spoil your classmates.    eople with different    levels of language    and capabilities are everywhere. You should be more generous to others.

catcherintherye,

Thank you for your advice. Yes, we need to introspect everyday. But I am afraid I will not work in investment banks because I do not have financial background. Now, our nation is still not a open market and therefore the investment banks focus mainly on other nations.

As for language, it is a barrier for us to find jobs. When I studied in Olin Business School, the main competitor of Chinese for job hunting is Indians. They do not have problem in interviews. This is their competitive advantage!

I    think our world is very small.    Each one depends on each other. The ex-president of CUHK said that his nationality was "the Earth" and not limited to just one area. He really has global mind-set. I felt very touched when I heard he said this.    In a course of anthropology, I learnt that    every culture is equal. We should not look down on each    other.

catcherintherye,

I would believe that what Michael said is valuable. I got the    ADMISSION from CUHK and OFFER (scholarship) from CEIBS.

For a mainlander, the only advantage is our mainland background. Just think, how will a US top IBank evaluate you in the interview? Y they will recruit you? Finally I gave up CUHK becaus eI believe CEIBS fits me more.

As for salary, th eaverage in HK is around 20-30k HKD. IB and MC will be much higher. What we need to think is the chance we get IB and MC offer? U ever thought about this?

But ,Michael,     I believe there should be someone from Mainland who get the offer from IB. YES, THEY CAN. I met a girl from UST, she got th eoffer from M STANLY. But she gave up for the unbelievable ib life.

Usdusaj,

She should be very smart. I think life is a trade-off. You get something but you lose. We spent a lot of time in GMAT but lost our family time.

Working in investment banks may mean that she does not have spare time to enjoy herself or to meet a good boyfriend.
