问ISI，  B选项为什么错，  是因为后面 THAT从句 不如 for TO 简洁吗， 还是前面 WITH 的问题

因为 B是独立主格， 我理解成修饰后面的FOUND，  因为独立主格是状语， 陈述主句动作发生时伴随的状态， 就像下面这个句子

With His mouth filled with water, he couldn't utter a word.

某种程度上来说，也能替代因果关系了吧？

如果是要表因果, 用有多種功能/meaning的with沒什麼好處...只會有ambiguity -- 因為reader不知道你想表達那一個meaning (e.g causal relationship, or others?)

我认为B中独立结构with没错，特别是with结构放在句首时。

B与D比逻辑不好。

先看D：it is a crime for US citizens to do，很清楚：citizens因为do就会被认定为犯罪。

再看B：it is a crime that US citizens do，意思是：citizens do这件事是犯罪。没有上面清晰，没有表达清楚：谁犯罪？

看了以上的讨论，明白各项错在哪里了。请问一个别的：due to放句首一定错误么？我做GWD或者其他题经常看到because of、due to、On account of这几种用法放在一起考，基本上都是选because of。好像之前看到有SC JJ上有due to放句首是正确选项。

A中的making it crime punishable by imprisonment that,it 是形式主语，真正的主语在that里面，而punishable by imprisonment 是作为定语修饰crime的。A主要错误还是楼上说过的，主谓不一致。

C中还有一个错误，it作为形式主语，只能指代不定式或者that从句，所以made it a crime for ...doing就错了。

我觉得这题形式主语是一个考点。

现在分词和定语从句的区别是现在分词一般强调多次重复性行为，而定于从句一般强调具体一次性行为，而且规律是所有的法律法规都是强调多次重复性行为，不论这个法律法规是什么时候颁布的，所以多数情况下，用现在分词来修饰法律法规优于定语从句。不知道这样解释能不能理解。

B错在其一，with做主句动作found的伴随，改变了原来因果的关系；其二hold与a United States citizen单复数不一致。

我觉得其他选项都有问题。但是D也不是很好啊，因为because of law (passed) making it punishable.... 感觉有歧义，好像是because of  S (law) +Ving (making) it punishable, 好像这个because of 用法错了吧。如果说because of law (passed) (making it....) making 也是修饰 law， 那么是不是应该改成 because of low passed and making it...???

其实在这里，making it...是a law的内容吧~一般法律条文后面多是接ing形式而非that形式，虽然二者都可以作同位语修饰law，而passed是law的后置定语，它和making显然不是同一个层次的，所以不能并列！

Doing分词结构在中间有前后修饰歧义，并且a United States citizen 应该+ holds。排除A。

这道题可不可以这样理解
law 发挥作用应该是一个持续的状态 所以应该用making 来修饰，表示动作的持续性，而不是that makes（made）表示动作的一次性， 这样就剩AC了 然后A跟C比较的时候是因为后面for a United States citizen to hold 更简洁吗？

a, b, c can all be eliminated because of improper idiomaticusage: the proper idiom is '...a crime for blah blah blah to hold...'
'with' in choice b is also bad: it seems to imply that immigrants arrived withthe law in their hands.
choice c implies that the immigrants themselves are 'a law passed in 19xx'(analogy: 'an accomplished pianist, jay made a nice living playing at weddings'- jay is an accomplished pianist. same reading applies to this sentence,although it's considerably longer and more difficult to parse)

choice d doesn't do that: it writes 'because of a law', where 'a law' isdefinitely a noun. (the subsequent modifier 'making it a crime...' modifies'law', and is not associated with 'because of')

choice e changes the meaning of the sentence: taken literally, it says that theimmigrants found themselves in this unenviable situation not because of the lawitself, but because of the passage of the law. although somewhatplausible, this is not the intent of the original sentence.


所以这题还是从固定搭配和逻辑意思来分析。

passed是作定语修饰law的，如果是动词也应该为was passed。making表法律持续效果，与passed共同修饰law。
