GWD-24-Q 20:

   According to a 1996 survey by the National Association of College and
   University Business Officers, more than three times as many independent
   institutions of higher education charge tuition and fees of under $8,000 a
   year than those that charge over $16,000.

A. than those that charge

B. than are charging

C. than to charge

D. as charge

E。as those charging

答案是E，还是D,查了好多以前的讨论帖，好像没有定论。

反对D的说D有歧义，应该是8000收入以下的tuition和收入16000以上的tuition比，而不是收入8000和收入16000比。但是D刚好用了一个省略as(many indenpendent institutions of higher education) charge (tuition and fees )over 16000，完全没有歧义阿

而E中的those本来就很奇怪，如果是指代institutions，这个比较就不平衡了，就成了more than 3 times as A do1 as those doing1如果指代tuition and fees的话，后面应该用charged.

有没有NN来说说到底选什么啊这道题……

个人觉得那个as many as是一定要补全的

是固定结构吧

然后those是主语，不然就不知道谁charge了

可是BY和Prep笔记上都说代词不能单独充当主语哦

GWD的没有做全，有些答案是有问题的，比如那道以Being作为主语开头的题目（Prep里有）。

这道题我怎么觉得答案应该是A呢？结构是这样的：more X do A than those that do B, 应该用than而不是as来比较吧。。。three times as many 之后不用补 as.

我觉得选D,看og 10 187

as....as 比较主语，而主语是同类名词时的使用习惯。

In one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, fought at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862,
four times as many Americans were killed as would later be killed on the beaches of Normandy during
D-Day.

(A) Americans were killed as
(B) Americans were killed than
(C) Americans were killed than those who
(D) more Americans were killed as there
(E) more Americans were killed as those who

此题答案应该是D，原因如下：

as ...as..后边的as是连词，应该跟完整的句子或者是省略的句子，如果选E则是相当于跟名词短语了（charging 做后置定语修饰those），从语法上来说，肯定是D好，把能省的都省了。

个人认为E比D好

可能选D的同学们受到OG题的影响：

这题选A，原因如下：

as many as，排除BC

前文没有出现there，所以后文there不构成任何对比，排除D

现在，可能大家的理解是不应补充第二个as后面的成分，句子更简洁

但是其实真正原因是those who表示在civil war已经死过一次的人在诺曼底D-Day又死一遍。。。（还魂术？）

因此并不是“能省就省”就是好的答案，是因为补上as后面的东西之后，人就可以死两遍，所以不对

言归正传，现在讲这道题

这道题可以这么看，如果选D，简化句子，就成了

... more than three times as many A (charge X) as (charge Y)

句子本意是比较institutions，但现在没有A和B的对比

E的结果是

... more than three times as many A (charge X) as those (charging Y)

很清晰的出现了A和those的对比，并且如同史诗般工整对仗

因此E是答案

... more than three times as many A (charge X) as (charge Y)

唉~~我觉得应该选E

省略的规则是：
比较的两个主语相同省主语；谓语相同可以用助动词替代，有时可省略；主谓都相同可以一起省略
这道题比较的两个主语不相同，只是属于同一类，所以要用those替代
as many A 比较的方面 as B
E还算工整吧~~~嗯
