白勇CH7 比较结构有个地方不解请问

I eat more than he does.

The priciple could have greater significance than do the particulars.

Tiny quantities threaten to warm the atmosphere more rapidly over the next fifty years than carbon dioxide will.

1.第二句的do为什么不放到the particulars(S)后面？因为第一句实义动词就是放在S后面

2.如果要放后面是不是要用could(情态动词)？就像第三句的will(助动词)用法一样省略V

问题1.我比较纳闷，请问我问题2.这样解释对吗？

请指教

我还没见过than后面接could的......也不知道是不是不能接
同问

但是动词是要放在than后面的，表示比较的是两个的动作，而且如果主语不同的话还要在than后补主语

比较的专题论坛上有啊，楼主看看就知道了
