In the 1970’s the process of locating profitable pipes was refined by focusing on the subtle differences between the chemical signatures of indicator minerals found in diamond-rich pipes as opposed to those found in barren pipes.
大家看看 as opposed to those found in barren pipes 作何成分?
即 the process of locating profitable pipes was refined as the process was opposed to those found in barren pipes.

as opposed to those found in barren pipes 平行对象是 the chemical signatures of indicator minerals found in diamond-rich pipes
those 指代 the chemical signatures of indicator minerals
另 as opposed to sth. (Longman)

Another point is to give the medication on a scheduled as opposed to an as-needed basis.

还有一个问题 as opposed to 可以用 in contrast to/with 替换吗?
