标题: Anyone got PhD in finance offer?
Has anybody got Ph.D in finance offer? I applied some but still no response. emailed admissions office but told me to be patient and wait until end of feb. why it takes so long time for the school to reach a conclusion?

It will be great if u can share ur background if u r admitted.

hi, Jin, 我申请了几个PhD in Finance 几个PhD in strategic management,去年扔的材料,都快想不起来哪个学校对哪个专业了,有一个够本,来两个就赚了,呵呵. 不过干等着是挺难受的. 中国学生之间的竞争肯定激烈了,1月份有个学校还把一份给一个科大学生的宣传资料寄到我家了,就因为姓重了...真不知道他们有多少个surname 是wang的申请人...

I think it depends on school by school. if no news/interview yet, probably means either u r out or in the second or third round. Let's wait for another week, i think the result will be out.

update on finance phd admission data:

someone from business week forum said he called Columbia finance and econ phd program. he was told anyone who has not heard from them up to now are almost surely out.

Wharton has already sent out the offers for finance phd.

回家发现有一个电话留言，说是被xxx大学拒了。悲伤沮丧之余又把那个message听了几遍，觉得不对劲，然后trace了一下，发现是朋友的恶作剧。结果发生了什么事你们自己去猜。

如果嫌活得腻了就去如此骚扰那些正在等offer的哥们吧。记得要先买保险。

Somemore insight in the admission process -- from a first-year phd candidate in a top 15 school

below is from businessweek forum, by AGT11

"To sum up, offers are being made a few at a time. Let's say Wharton wants to take in 6 ppl this year. First they send out 4-6 offers to their most-wanted applicants in mid-Feb, and hopefully 3 accepts the offer. Then they send out 3 more offers around March 15, asking for a reply deadline of April 15. Then if there any seat left they will send out 2 more offers again to make up an incoming class of 6 people. "

Obviously we arn't the ones on the top of their list, so just pray we can hear back from them sometime in March.

UPDATE

For those who have applied to business phd:

Chicago finance will send out decisions by March 1

NYU will send out decisions by the first week of March

Wharton finance will send out decisions by the first two weeks of March. Wharton stat phd has already send out offers, wharton finance has already sent out partial offers

Stanford will send out decisions by the first week and early second week of march

Columbia will send out most decision on the first week of march. Rejection letters has been sent out since last week on a rolling biasis

Emory, Boston College, and Vanderbilt finance have conducted interviews on potential applicants (or will do so within this week)

不好意思，刚刚从一个campus visit回来，有八个教授轮流轰炸，不过发现好多美女，真是眼花缭乱，垂涎欲滴。。。

duke offer: >200 applications received, 7 offered admission，奖学金没提，不过肯定是有的，每个牛校都差不多

刚刚回来发现U of michigan finance phd program发email要我去他么们那边to have final round of interview，我肯定是不去了

又发现email邮箱里还有columbia finance and econ phd 的offer, >300 applications received, 6 offers made. 奖学金23500/year，还告诉我说有系内有五个教授会随时打电话给我，也不管人家受得了受不了。。。

另外update一下别的学校的消息(finance phd)

washington U: offer made

penn state: offer made

Emory: campus visit over, offers going to be made next week

boston college, OSU, LBS, and MSU have sent out offers, UF and vanderbilt have conducted interviews

Count me, another rejected candidate by Cornell.

So many people applied for Cornell, just In CD, I have seen at least five rejection including me by Cornell.

But there is more, got rejected by Chicago PhD finance, two rejections at same time, poor me...

Ding from Chicago finance as well. So pissed off because one of the professors writing me recommendation letters is a top-notch finance professor graduated from Chicago.

What's funny is that I know a guy who's been rejected by Emory and Duke's finance but has been accepted by Chicago finance. Just the opposite as me?!

刚刚和duke finance招生的教授聊了聊，他说今年给出七个offer，准备招三个人。就是钱给得太少了，加上research一年刚过两万刀，还不如emory慷慨。student-faculty interaction好像挺不错，十个学生十七个教授，不像wharton一样五十个学生十多个教授那么恐怖。第一二年都要交term paper和考qualifying，但是经五年来好像只有一个学生因个人原因退学，还没有人被踢出去的惨事。

in fact, majority of them are from the yale econ department. in order to get 150k starting salary and also because of personal interest, most of them do a concentration in finance.

Yale has a lot of bright Chinese scholars. 4 out of 5 of the Fudan Shichengshebian Team (The Chinese College Debate Team) are studying at Yale right now.

When Fudan people go to Yale and do well, professors tend to recruit more students from there, so they generally form a huge gang there : )

Yale is a place of political influence. I heard the grandchildrens of Hu Jintao and Liu Huaqing are all doig undergraduate studies there.

The Director of Graduate Studies at Yale SOM sent me an email at 9.30pm telling me that I was admitted. The official letters will be mailed out from the Yale Graduate School on Friday.

Don't worry too much as long as you havn't seen the rejection letter. I was frustrated when I heard someone was offered admission to Columbia, but one week later I also got admission. Just have faith in yourself.

A grad student at HBS told me that HBS has made final decisions in all their doctoral programs. The decisions will go out next week.

i agree its doubtful. He's 61 years old by now, so that's only possible if he's extremely productive. I heard it from the talk given by two students at Yale (Qian Yongqiang and Fan Wenzhong). You can download the talk at Taisha's website.

I was put on the waiting list of UT Austin. The director told me that they have already sent out 8 offers(They are going to admit 6 PhD students). Actually I visited their campus last week and received a rejection letter right after I came back.
