答案给的是C ，也有人说prep出现过这题上选E

此题考的是倒装，主语是the rate at which trees grow，谓语是are,由主谓一致原则可知A，B都错了，D无谓语，也不能选。剩下的C和E选项中，

1、选C 的认为：E会造成语义不清，sunspot cycles是修饰earth还是indications, 表达不够清楚，所以答案选C。

2、选E的认为：C选项as seen in the rings visible in the cross sections of their trunks 错误的修饰了sunspot cycles。

E中as seen in the rings visible in the cross sections of their trunks修饰的是rate才对。
