答案是D，我个人觉得B更好，such as 举例，划线部分最后跟上structure，让with修饰清晰。可我不明白D是对在哪里了？？

答案是D，我个人觉得B更好，such as 举例，划线部分最后跟上structure，让with修饰清晰。可我不明白D是对在哪里了？？

请大家指教！！！

我觉得 A , B ,C 都有一问题，在于 with an outer rim and....spokes...用来修饰structure了。被gmac判定为 misplaced modifier.

应该是 webs with an outer rim and....spokes...

这种区别对于non-native speaker来说，不太明显吧，我这道题也错选了C。

具体来说

A like用来举例；with... 用来修饰 structure

B webs 和is，verb agreement不对；with...用来修饰structure.

C with... 用来修饰structure

E like..do,;like被当成连词用；as essentially表达完全不知所云

我觉得C错关键是因为它写的是 the argiope SPIDER，其中spider后面没有加S

如果它只写the argiope那就对了

我的问题是such A as B 后面的谓语动词是该根据A 还是B 呢？

另外感觉D选项这里的结构build webs that are essentially wheel-like很微妙。如果改为更简洁的形式：build essentially wheel-like webs,会造成essentially既可以修饰build 又可以修饰wheel-like的歧义

总之ETS真是厉害！做这种题目对开发智力有帮助啊~

这道题选D.
A. Such...like不符合惯例. 惯例是Such...as.
B. 复数spiders是中心词, 不是Such spiders as argiope的argiope. Spiders需要跟表示复数的动词形态Build.
C. 跟B类似, 单数argiope是中心词, 不是Argiope, in the same way as other spiders的spiders. Argiope需要跟表示单数的动词形态Builds.
而且, in the same way as other spiders 需要加上 do.
D.正确.
E.Like other spiders do的do放在这里是错误的.

此外还有几点,
1.
(A=Argiope, {S}=orb-weaving spiders)
C讲"A, in the same way as other {S}, ..." 强调的是A和{S}中其他元素类似, 类似在于...
D讲"{S} such as the A, ..." 强调{S}的一个子集, 这个子集具有和A类似的特性, 特性在于...
BTW, 再延伸一下,
如果说"{S}, such as the A, ..."(加了一个逗号), 则强调{S}的全集. 有逗号的such as就是举几个栗子, {S}没有限定作用. 没有逗号的such as就是"像这样的", 对于{S}有限定作用.

以下不是很重要:

关于D中, webs that are essential wheel-like, with an outer rim ...这里为什么这一部分中心词是webs, 但with后面用单数, 不用复数, 原因是这里是"COMMA + WITH ABSOLUTE PHRASE"形式, 逗号加WITH型独立主格限定的是前面相邻的从句, 即"... that are wheel-like", 起到状语的作用.

3.
关于"with an outer rim ..."限定的是webs还是structure这个问题, 首先限定哪一个都说得通; 其次实战中假如一定要通过确定修饰webs而不是structure, 没有一个固定的criteria, 不容易操作, 而考虑上述问题已经足够. 所以个人认为不需要纠结webs or structure的问题.

4.
个人感觉B中的what is是冗余的. 说with an essentially wheel-like structure足矣.

5.A vs B.
A的(is) " an essentially wheel-like structure"和B的"is essentially a wheel-like structure"表达的意思不一样.
A中说的是这种网有一种结构, 这种结构从本质上来说, 是wheel-like structure. 主体是这种蜘蛛的网的结构.
B中essentially会有歧义, essentially作为副词可以修饰前面的is, 所以说的是这种网必然地是一种wheel-like structure. 主体是wheel-like structure.
