句子要表达的意思是the confederacy 这个集合中的部落和这一集合内的部落交往密切，而和集合之外的部落不那么密切。

那么one social unit就是the confederacy, 也是informally related neighboring tribes.这样就通了。其实此题抽出主干就是The K recognized一个unit.完事!后面的一堆东西都是迷惑考生的!后面划线部分就是interacted with...more often than with...貌似这道题不用看懂句意?用with...with...两个with都要出现就解决了...
