如果LZ覺得有, 妳可以試一下把那個被指的東西replace "that", 妳會發現, 都是邏輯不通.

我认为that是有指代的，它指代number, number of the increase 造成语义重复。

that在本句中是没有一个确切的词来指代的，因为后一句doubling...是做状语修饰主句表结果的。

我查了一下longman中increase作名词是的用法，increase in是一个固定搭配

increase in
an increase in the crime rate
Recent tax increases have affected the poor more than the rich. the dramatic increase in the population aged over 65 There has been a marked increase in the use of firearms.Cases of tuberculosis are on the increase .

所以会不会是doubling the increase in
the number of people flying first class on domestic flights of the previous year啊？

可是还有个很严重的问题，有of the previous year这种用法么？？

double在这里做动词，以动名词形式引导状语从句，前后的比较对象可以不是同类，如果用twice的话，前后比较对象需要一致，我的理解是这样的，不知道说的对不对。。。。。

错了，我也选了B。

仔细想想，还是A正确。是指当年的增加幅度是上年的两倍(...rose..., doubling the increase)

有人说B中that指代the number，那么翻译过来成了“当年的人数是上年增加人数的两倍”，逻辑上说不通。

B中that指代有问题，并且 increase in搭配意思为“...方面的增长” 所以increase in the previous year表示 the previous year本身的increase不合逻辑。排除B

doubling the increase of the previous year。想了半天只能理解成这样，这里的increase 作为名词指代 the number of people flying first class on domestic flights rise 这件事情的。因此对比今年的这件事比去年的这件事更迅速。
请NN指教。

double, twice在这里都是动词，不能直接用动词原形，至少要有连词搭配，这个地方的VING是做伴随状语作用的

其次，无论是double，还是twice 修饰的宾语是the increase, 这尼玛还分情况了，如果你看把increase只当做增加来看，增量是不可数名词， many换成much，如果你把increase深层次理解，当做是the number of people的增加，那么increase就是个代词了，代替的内容就是the number of people，在比较数字，用great来比较，the number is greater than ...，而不是the number is 3 times as many/much as that number了。

而且double/twice as many/much as 都得紧跟被修饰对象，即 the increase doubles...如果不紧紧跟着的话，不能用此结构~~

在语法笔记知识点补充中有一个不明白
(3)If the noun in question is already an explicitly numerical quantity, then you should use neither "much" nor "many". Instead, you should just use "twice" or "double" by itself.
e.g., twice the increase --> "increase" is an explicitly numerical quantity

可不可以把twice as much as the increase... --> incorrect; redundant
twice the increase... --> correct

要注意这不是一道传统意义上的比较题：对象一个是数量number一个是增量increase就注定了他们没法比较；含义是number的增加造成了increase的两倍（make increase double）
Retail sales rose 8/10 of 1 percent in August, intensifying expectations [that personal spending (in the July-September quarter) would (more than) double the 1.4 percent growth rate (in personal spending for the previous quarter)]. (7-9月的个人支出造成了前一季度1.4增长量两倍的增长。)
同理，这两个对象也是无法比较的，一个是数量一个是比例，只能时造成了（make sth. double）的关系

that指代number，increase和that都指代数值，要么是人数对比，要么是上升数量对比
