15. In his research paper, Dr. Frosh, medical director of the Payne Whitney Clinic, distinguishes mood swings. which may be violent without their being grounded in mental disease, from genuine manic-depressive psychosis.

(A) mood swings, which may be violent without their being grounded in mental disease, from genuine manic-depressive psychosis

(B) mood swings, perhaps violent without being
grounded in mental disease, and genuine
manic-depressive psychosis ,

(C) between mood swings, which may be violent
without being grounded in mental disease, and
genuine manic-depressive psychosis

OG的解释说(perhaps violent) is awkward and less clear than the more developed clause which may be violent.

which从句怎么就比这个perhaps violent...清楚了？这个perhaps violent....有什么不清楚的地方或者产生歧义的地方吗？

待会去查查语法书，看看perhaps的用法。这里perhaps和形容词黏着在一起，和我们平时看到的perhaps和动词黏着的用法不一样。



        先说说，我认为的区别。



B补出后是which is perhaps violent....



C是which may be violent...



        关键区别在于perhaps和may be上。



C: 这句话表达的意思是mood swings 可能会变得
        不稳定。也就是说mood swings 可能出现，出现后：有时稳定，有时不稳定。



B: perhaps修饰voilent，
        于是B的意思是：mood swings 就是
        一种
        可能的
        不稳定。
        mood swing 可能出现，出现后就是不稳定。



        我认为
        要表达原句的意思,B要改成 which
perhaps will be voilent.

形容词短语：只能作定语
位于句首，按照就近修饰原则，修饰主语；
位于句中或句尾，作定语修饰前面的名词。
注意：一般情况下，形容词短语前面加“，”，优先修饰之前名词词组的核心词。如果形容词短语前无“，”，则应修饰其紧接的名词。

所以从语法上来判断
perhaps violent without being
grounded in mental disease 形容词短语是修饰mood swings, 和which 引导的非限定定于从句修饰的中心词一致。但问题是原句从句中含有情态动词 may, 所以which 引导的非限定定于从句不能简化为形容词短语。
我认为如果原句从句中不含有情态动词，which 引导的非限定定于从句和形容词短语可通用。

但是OG的解释里压根也没提到情态动词的问题啊
