答案是C，没问题

想请问：D选项中and it was assumed后面加上that，是否正确？？（肯定没C好，但是否正确呢？）

即这个句子：and it was assumed that it had poisonous properties because of its relationship to deadly nightshade.

此处第一个it是形式主语，第二个指的是tomato，可以这样用吗？？？

另外，可以参见这个例子：大全261

261. During the 1980s it became clear that soliciting private funds was far more efficient for environmentalists who sought financial aid than to go to state or federal agencies.

(B) that for environmentalists who sought financial aid, it was far more efficient to solicit private funds

答案是B，此处第一个it是形式主语，第二个it也是形式主语，但是指代不同，按照答案，是可以这样用的。

In my opinion, it is ok to change the sentence as you stated. The grammar is ok. But it is strange to use "assume" with virtual subject "it". I think that if we use personal noun or pronoun, it will be better.

我觉得不行啊, it was far more efficient to solicit private funds,IT在这里是做形式主语,而且没有FREE N.,不会有歧义.

可是在and it was assumed that it had poisonous properties because of its relationship to deadly nightshade.中,因为前面有个AND很容易误会是同前半句的平行,这样IT应该指代the tomato,就有歧义了.

I think it would be ok if the sentence is changed to " if it is assumed to have ..."

主语从句，that 不可以省略的。

                 我总结了一下，是否可以这么认为：

             仅对于代词it，主句和从句可指代不同的对象，那是否要求其中一个要为形式主语呢？
