我们是Simon 2010'MBA Candidates。去年的这个时候，我们也像你们一样，在拿到offer以后在这里搜寻更多的信息，来帮助自己做出正确选择。

今年，我们延续Simon的传统。我们会尽量帮助你们了解这所学校，告诉你们一个我们眼中的Simon。

General Introduction
我们会逐步补充这一部分，希望能解答大部分问题

- Academic
As we all know, finance in Simon is very strong and there is a large network of alumni in northest of US. From the academic education, Simon is very quantitative, if you want to get solid training on financial analyzing and data related marketing analysis, it is probably a good choice. From the industry, the school is also a good choice for those who want to focus on healthcare & phama industry.

- Internship Seeking
Not good till now, none of the students from mainland China get internship opportunities. However, we are still seeking, and from 2nd year students's experience, 100% of them get internship in the summer vacation, and may internship postings come before summer vacation

- Chinese Alumni/Graduates
Most of the alumni are in finance, while the others are doing marketing in industry
- Financial aid
Generally most of the admitted students may get some scholarship as tuition waive, average 25%, and this year the scholarship will rise even more to attract outstanding students. There may some part-time intern opportunities in the 2nd year, but very rare. I would suggest you have enough money if really choose to study here.

- Life in Rochester
There are a lot of snow from Oct to Mar, but not very cold, just similar to Beijing. Life is a little bit boring, but good place if you want to focus on study and learning. It's very safe on campus, university of Rochester has a large coverage in the city. Living expense is very low, roughly $500-$700 per month.

Q: SIMON一个班大概多少人？
A: 一个年级Full-time MBA大概130人左右，一般会分成2个小班上课。

Around 5-6 students from mainland China. To be the honest, job seeking is pretty tough this year.

For 国内校友, do you mean those gaduates now working in China? Some of them in finance as portfolio managers, while some are doing marketing in corporations, such as IBM and Honeywell. You may contact the admission office to get the their information.

我收到SIMON的资料,(他们可能是通过GMAT考试机构知道我的分数和地址的,我出来没有和他们联系过,也没有送过任何成绩),说我被他们选为priority candidate,并免了申请费.我想问一下SIMOM的CDER这种信是发给很多人的还是仔细挑选的,如果申请录取率一般和其他申请人比能高多少?SIMON是个好学校,但是如果录取率不高,我也不想再写申请信了,实在精力有限.

i have received simon's offer. but there is still a lot of money even though simon offer me a scholarship.

I really like this school, so is there any other financial aid for international students? or can i get a loan?

As the placement rate this year, internship oppotunities in Kodak or Xerox HQ?

A: Simon opened its one-year MSF program to international students who have no working experience. In 2008, its MSF program has about 40 students, 25 out of which came from China.
I don't quite understand your second question. I could help you to contact with some current MSF student here if you need more detailed information.

A: 2010'MBA 一共有7个从中国大陆来的学生，其中可能有少一半有Finance的背景。
今天的就业形势并不太好。美国经济不景气是一个很大的原因。Simon以Finance方向为最强，而今天Finance是重灾区。
Simon在国内的校友并不多（据我所知）。他们有在金融证券业的，也有在传统产业或制造业的。

A: 我当年和你的情况差不多，在收到Simon application fee waive之前，我都没听说过这个学校。对于国际学生，Simon的录取在GMAT上的权重较高，所以既然你所要付出的只是半天时间和一个邮寄费，为什么不试试呢？

A: I'm afraid that the only financial aid for international students are the one from Simon (Disregard this answer if you do know some other resource).

About the loan, you need American citizen to be your co-signer to get a loan.

A: All most everyone here is talking about finance. You have a strong financial atmosphere here and you can learn a lot from Prof. and your classmates. That is the best thing I like about Simon.

Hi,Skydra, in my admission letter, the school actually recommends me to enroll to English Language program prior to commencing my study in Sep. So base on your experience, do you think it is worthwhile attending this program or you actually skip it to join the study in Sep directly? thanks

A: That program is a great program if you don't consider the money. Up to now, I know most of my classmates from that program. However, 5000 some dollars are really not cheap.
I was required to take that program. I could not skip it. I know if someone is recommended, he/she has the option to skip it or not.

I will not participate in the English Language program due to the too expensive fee.

Skydra: 1. For most China students, is there any chance to land job in U.S.?

2. Is there any possibliliy to negotiate with the adimission office about the scholarship? if we do not satisfy with the scholarship?

3. You mentioned that the daily life is kind of boring,could you pls share the student life in Rochester with us?
