In@Kelley & McCombs

Some of my personal knowledge about Texas. Very good soft skill training called Plus Program. I know an ex-PwC graduated from Texas and managed to land in McK in Shanghai. Texas has good partnerships with some of the top consulting firms including Deloitte Consulting. For McK level, we really need to work very hard to get in - the same for anyone. Not much knowledge about Kelley. Hope it helps.

btw, I had a very good interview (I would rather call it a talk between friends) with Daniel (you can check the title of Daniel on Texas website) when he came to Beijing for World MBA Tour last November. I personally would say that Daniel is one of the nicest and most charming b school interview I have ever met. This is a very friendly school. A few friends of mine and I are big fans for Texas, no matter we apply it or not. cheers...

McCombs for sure.

justgoahead, thanks for your valuable point of view. My interview was also an informative and pleasant conversation, yes! My interviewer was Vicki, a good dialogue partner. For UT itself, it is a good university generally.

I talked to Daniel and Vicky. They are both nice persons.

One thing you need to consider is location. Then McCombs will certainly outweigh Kelley, although they are both good schools.

UT for sure. No brainer.
if consulting industry is your target, i vote kelley.
那如果target是IB/PE/VC呢?

UT for sure. They are both good schools, but considering the location and job placement, UT should be the better choice...

btw, I have also admitted by Austin, so maybe there is some personal emotion...

If your target is consulting, Kelley is not a good option. I have no idea about McCombs.
agree with justgoahead,

kelley also has a very good relationship with deloitte or E&Y, but if your target is mck or bcg level, not a good choice. you need to work extremely hard.

VC/IB/PE, kelley is not a good choice, definitely.

2006, I remember you are from Kelley, right?

I guess "2006" means he agrees on that both schools aren't target schools of top tier consulting firms.

Both schools aren't good for consulting career. Here are some advices if you have no more choices.

Q1: Ask for a list of consulting firms coming for on campus recruitment.

Q2: Ask current students for a ratio of how many Chinese finally land a job in consulting vs total number. Maybe they won't know the ratio in 5 years but have no problem with the number in 2-3 years. Surely hired/desired will be more accurate, but i guess it's hard to get. Ignore the information of US students cause it is almost irrelevant.

The answers of above 2 questions show you the difference of the 2 schools in macro level.

Q3: If you plan to go back to China. Ask how many alumni in consulting industry in China? It's the most critical factor you definitely should put in the first priority.

Q4: If you plan to stay in US. Extract relevant information from previous questions and analyze the probabilty. My stupid guess will be: both schools don't help much. Your personal skills/characters rather than either Kelley or McCombs decide whether you can make it.
