thus就是个副词还是主要看provided...and may thus force平行吧

thus我觉得就是个副词不是特别考虑的

我也栽在这上面了，如果这里用了 forced 估计大家都懂得怎么选。ETS 就是狠啊

这里应该是 provided 和 may force 并列，may 这里不是现在时，而是表示可能性（情态动词时态性不强）

5）情态助动词的“时”的形式并不是时间区别的主要标志。在不少场合，情态助动词的现在时和过去时形式都可以表示现在、过去或将来时间：

因此我觉得可以认为 may force 是表示过去的一种可能性，请NN指正

不是may，是maybe一定错
