P43 第51题

Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one when it is not.

划线部分是a condition when it is present and indicate that there is one



正确答案是将划线部分替换成 a condition when it is present and indicate that it is present



我不是非常理解。。原句中and应该并列的是detect 和 indicate，且when it is not 后省略了（present）。这是我的理解。

那么，如果替换成正确答案，就会变成 ...and indicate that it is present when it is not (present). 这貌似不是很合理吧，怎么翻译的通呢？

先贴上OG对A的解释：
In choices A and B, the phrase indicate that there is one does not grammatically fit with when it is not because it has no referent.
个人理解：
首先one是不定代词，而it是指定代词(指代前面某个特定的名词或名词短语)，it指代不定代词one不合理，所以it无所指代。
其次，A里面there be放在这里不符合there be的使用逻辑，必须是调查数据，天然存在，固有的事物等才用there be。
再者，C的平行比A好很多，读起来也顺口。
(C: Any medical test will sometimes fail to detect a condition when it is present and indicate that it is present when it is not.)

when it is not后面是省略了Present，但indicate应该是和fail并列，如果是dectect和indicate并列，一定要补出不定式前面的to以避免歧义。
两种情况的并列：condition出现时却检测不出，没有出现时却检测出来了。
