Q: One of your friends states that "operations management and supply chain management are primarily of interest to manufacturing firms." Is this true or false? Give some examples to support your answer.

If you look into positions under operations manager and supply-chain manager, you will have good understanding on the difference between these two management fields.

operations should have function on supply chain management which has enterprise resource intergrated ultimately, on the other hand, it also can be a spot of higher level supply chain.

我不怎么理解的地方是: primarily of interest to manufacturing firms.

"operations management" here means fuctions under strategy, organizations, accounting, process management, SCM etc. all belongs to so called operations management. He points supply chain management here is to emphesis on it.

Additionally, we can also say can operations is a part of the supply chain.

Agree, many companies organised Operation Level as the base support function of SCM

operation management concentrates on the process of manufacturing inside the corporation or factories, whereas supply chain management focuses on the control of the flow of martirial,WIP,and finished products. One thing we have to note is that the name of the major in not the conclusive evidence of what the major covers. Some operations majors in US collegs focuses on SCM and logistics.

the concept of SCM you mentioned here is more suitable to be categorized into "logistics management" rather than SCM coz SCM is not only focus on the materials but more importantly focus on relationship management between up- and down-stream partners. It pays more attention on planning.
