the answer is C, but i choosed A. could anyone explain to me why the correct answer is A?

是宾语比较,A Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than are fungi

at acquiring carbon 插在中间不通畅,而比较对象也不对等,且未划线部分 and converting it to energy-rich sugars 正好与 C. Plants are more efficient than fungi at acquiring carbon中at acquiring carbon对应. 且此时比较无歧义.

C. Plants are more efficient than fungi at acquiring carbon,

D. Plants, more efficient than fungi at acquiring carbon, 没有谓语不成句子

这个题主要是读清楚句子结构就好办了 plants are more efficient at acquiring and coverting...那个in the form of carbon dioxide只是插入语，拿掉之后就清楚了很多。

我觉得 in the form of carbon dioxide 是修饰的fungi啊，因为看意思不就是在carbon dioxide的形式中么？那如果选C的话是修饰了plants么？那很说不通啊，如果修饰carbon的话，那么不是很重复？如果都不是，那就又成了修饰fungi了。

我觉得这个are没有错误啊~~Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than are fungi中的acquiring carbon 不就是宾语嘛？那这时are就不能省呀。是in the form of carbon dioxide的问题吧~~

我也觉得are 是没有问题的，这里的are 不能省略，否则，就变成，宾语的比较了，就是不明白，为什么in the form of carbon dioxide 一定是修饰fungi的呢？？？

根据楼主的意思，这个are应该不能省略才对啊，plants（主语）are more efficient at acquiring carbon（宾语）than fungi
这样的话就会把意思曲解为plants获得carbon比获得fungi更有效率，所以我觉得are不能省略才对啊。不知道是不是我哪里理解错了？

这一题警示我们看句子不要局限于画线的句子。有两点原因选C：
1.画线部分的最后一个名词必须是carbon结尾，因为没有画线的句子后面接的是in the form of carbon dioxide,那么这个noun phrase must appropriately modifies the preceding noun.如果是以fungi结尾不符合逻辑，错误的理解为in the form of carbon dioxide修饰fungi.
2.后面有一个and，出现and我么就要联想并列结构，and后面接的是converting,C选项是很好的平行结构：plants...at acquiring carbon,...and (at) converting it (carbon) to...

根据OG，楼上正解！说的是 C 之所以正确的两大原因。
然后根据OG, A的错误不在于are fungi, 这个表达是对的。A错是因为in the form of carbon dioxide错误地修饰了fungi.
D.句子无谓语
E.有比较歧义
