is a "is" missing at the end of the sentence?
'the morethe children use ..., the greater their intellectual advantage is'

后面的谓语如果是BE动词的话,可以省略
eg. What size box do you want?
The bigger, the better

我感觉的这个例子不行。
至少形式就不一致。the bigger ,the better，前后2部分的都是BE动词的表语。而这个题目里，the more..做副词，the greater 是形容词。

橙子或者大N们，能把这种语言现象解释的更详细点？

i have read your connection. however, it is still not clear. as terry_awesome said, the example illustrated above shows the ommision of the same structures. but in OG7, there are 2 different ones.

the more i talk to her, the more i like her.
the smaller the car is, the better

just my intuition

Yep.The omision of "is/will be" here is too weird.
what if this is an print mistake?.........

张道真的说法 “the+比较级，the+比较级”结构，表示“越是……越是”：
The（在这里既作副词又作连词）larger the house is，the（作副词）more expensive it is．（房子越大越贵。）
The hotter the weather is，the more tired we feel．
The longer you know a person，the better you understand him．
The wealthier he became，the less satisfied he felt．
The more he became wealthy，the less he felt satisfied．
451 “（主语+动词）＋the+比较级”结构中的主语及动词有时可省略：
The sooner the better．（主语及动词省略）
The more the merrier．
More haste，less speed．（连the也省略掉）

牛津的说法:要表达两个事物彼此相应增长时可用the+比较级…the+ 比较级这种结构：
House Agent：Do you want a big house？
Ann：Yes，the bigger the better．
Tom：But the smaller it is，the less it will cost us to heat．
狂搜索了一阵,的确没有发现两个部分所对应的谓语动词不同时可以省略的情况.
橙子的确不是治学严谨的人,误导大家了,对不起.

至少省略句尾的be动词没有引起歧义
这个结构应该和than的比较结构比较相似吧

写写橙子！those are very good example. we probably we can draw the conclusion that ommision only happens when the two clauses have the same structure. it can be a mistake of printing.
