标题: 补充题194

194.

Discrimination in wages paid in occupations that are predominantly male over the predominantly female have given rise to substantial differentials between the wage of housepainters and secretaries and between the wages of parking-lot attendants and library assistants.

(A) paid in occupations that are predominantly male over the predominantly female have

(B) paid in occupations that are predominantly make over those that are predominantly female have

(C) that favors predominantly male occupations over the predominantly female have

(D) that favors predominantly male occupations over those that are predominantly female hasE

(E) paid in predominantly male occupations over the predominantly female has

Answer key is E but i chose D, thinking i'm having problem understanding the meaning. someone said it's becuase in D, those cannot go with "favors".  but in E, how can you compare the "predominantly male occupations" with "predominantly female'???i'm sooo confused. please nn point me a direction...my test date is approaching~

1.D里面的that从句是限制性的,所以只能修饰that前面的名词,也就是wages.这就使得favors和wages对不上号了.

2.E选项是一个平行关系,the predominatly male occupations和the predominatly female occupations是平行的.所以把occupations省略了.

To me, it seems that, in E, male occupation is comparing with female. that's not parallel. can you give me an other example?

At first, I picked E as well because I thought that "favors" didn't match the plural noun - "wages".
However, I look at the question now again; I think that "over" is wrong because it doesn't pair up with any word in the sentence - unidiomatic.
I think that the subject of "favors" is discrimination not "wages".
I will go for D.
