标题: [求助]how to choose?
I got two admission and have to make a decision. One is from MSHRM program in Purdue University, and another is from MBA program in University of Washington. It is so hard for me to choose the final one, because:

in UW part:

Right now my husband is a Ph.D student in UW and will graduate in 2005. I have been in Seattle for almost 2 years and I am so familiar with this environment and even the students in the MBA program. At the same time, the placement in this MBA program in almost 100%.

in Purdue part:

The curriculum in this program is almost my dream, exactly what I want. The living expence is lower than Seattle, but the tuition is a little bit higher. I have a good friend in this University. But the placement is not as good as UW.

In terms of personal life, professional future and visa changing, what is your choice?

Right now, I am doing the research to find out which one is better. Any kind of opinion will be greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Oh, it's difficult to make a decision like that. A suggestion is, find a coin, and then throw it to the sky. When it fall on the ground, your decision is shown. To let god do this job is not bad. Joke.

I have no any idea of it. Just wanna give you a laughter.

who have any idea of the job placement of these two programs, especially for international student majoring in GM.

If I were you, I would choose UW. Your hubby is there and the placement is good! As for the curriculum, it's pretty much the same everywhere. Don't count too much on that, especially when the schools are not that top. Quite a coincidence, in my program, there is a chinese guy whose wife is a phd in UW. We always joke with him,"are you crazy living thousands of miles away from your wife?"

However, the decision should be made by yourself. Good luck!

thanks feifeifeifei.

but the problem is that in Purdue I am admitted by the MSHRM program, different from the MBA program in UW.

hard decision and sleepless.

If I were you, I'll choose UW too because 1) Your husband's there 2)Good placement (what else do you want from a school?), 3) Seattle is much much better than Indianna, based on my understanding. However, in the general reputation, it seems Purdue is a better school as well as it's MBA program. But you always take MBA first than other MS program, my 2 cents.

Also, are you right now in Seattle? I'm taking 1 month break and will go there. If you are there, we may meet.

thanks.

Yes, I am in seattle and have been here for almost 2 years.

meet you then. anything you need, let me know!

Purdue.

thanks for your guy's suggestion.

I still don't have the final decision. But here, money is another big concern. If I chose UW instead of Purdue, We would difinitely save a lot of money in terms of tuition and moving expense. At the same time, my husband would take care the family if I were too busy at the very beginning. But, .....

The UW one is MBA, so basically it is a final professional degree. If you go for a Master in Purdue, you can pursue a top MBA later. Depends on if this factor matters to you and whether you will still have passoin for MBA and whether age allows.

Personally, I don't think you will learn as much from a Mater program as from MBA. But careerwise, I don't think a degree from a soso MBA will do much more than a Master's Degree.

UW of coz!

If I were u, I go to UW.
The reputation of both schools are similar to some extent. But Purdue is located in a very boring countryside. By the way, being a HR will be very hard for Chinese due to cultural gap. Why do you want to spend more money and get more trouble by moving to mid-average school?
作者: joyoni    时间: 2004-2-11 00:52
being an HR professional is almays my dream and I probably will go back to china a couple of years after graduation.

The Master in Purdue is also a part of MBA program though they have different names. Actually, during about 1/3 courses are learned toghter with the MBA student.
