merges或merging的主语是Nuclear fusion，看后面的as is done in nuclear reactors，或者是as in nuclear reactors.抛开其他错误不说,总不能Nuclear fusion merges the nuclei of atoms but does not split them apart而nuclear reactors中也一样吧！！

关键还是理解句子的逻辑意思，这是解答SC的第一要义
