A survey by the National Council of Churches showed that in 1986 there were 20,735 female ministers, almost 9 percent of hte nation's clergy, twice as much as 1977.

A. Twice as much as 1977

B. Twice as many as 1977

C. double what it was in 1977

D. double the figure for 1977

E. a number double that of 1977's

这道题似乎只能选D，但是不明白double在此处为什么词性？怎么看怎么像动词，但是做动词理解前面就应该加连词之类。或者应改成 doubling the figure for 1977？？

形容词做同位语。。吧。。

但是不大像形容词的形式啊。比如说red the figure应译为将数字变红，，red因此也是作动词用啊
